Summary

He doesn't believe in happy endings。
She's lost her faith that they exist。
But could they find one together?

January is a hopeless romantic who likes narrating her life as if she's the heroine in a blockbuster movie。
Augustus is a serious literary type who thinks true love is a fairy-tale。
January and Augustus are not going to get on。

But they actually have more in common than you'd think:

They're both broke。
They've got crippling writer's block。
They need to write bestsellers before the end of the summer。

The result? A bet to see who can get their book published first。
The catch? They have to swap genres。
The risk? In telling each other's stories, their worlds might be changed entirely。。。

This book has everything you could want in it。 Cults, mysterious pasts, fun banter, fuzzy feelings and tears to follow along with it。 I enjoyed every part of this book and only regret taking such a long unnecessary break from it。 I recommend this book if you need a good cry or a good laugh or something that just lightly touches your soul。 It got to mine and I hope it gets to yours too。

I wanted to shake her and yell at her to “pull yourself together”! Luckily she started to even out as she worked through her grief。 I really wish January would have kept the home her dad left for her。 With her unstable financial situation it seemed a much smarter and easier decision to stay in the house which was already paid off。 Clearly I am still worried for her。 By her selling the house I was left with the feeling that she hadn’t actually forgiven her father。 Now on to Gus。。。 Gus’ character felt very similar to the many moody/ unavailable love interest characters ive read about in the past。 Plays a lot of hot and cold games which was a little frustrating at times since he is an adult。 However he is ultimately a character that you want to root for!If there is a sequel I hope we get to see January build more friendships。 This book made me wonder if she ever really invested in anyone outside of Shadi? I’d also like to know if Shadi ever finds someone who is in it for the long haul。 Overall liked the read a lot and would recommend to a friend! 。。。more

I like that this is a romance that isn't *only* about the romance。 I wouldn't consider it lighthearted, though, based on the subplots。 Nevertheless, I find the characters relatable and dynamic。 Worth a re-read! I couldn't put this down。 I didn't eat, barely slept, all I wanted to do was finish reading。 I loved both these flawed characters。 I found myself laughing out loud, tearing up, and just enjoying myself so much watching these two people unfold infront of each other。 The only downside to reading beach read is that I wish so much I could read both January's and Gus' books!! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Hmm。 I honestly cannot figure out how I felt about this book。 I listened to the audio version, and I thought I hated it。 The main character really annoyed me, and I didn’t feel any true liking for any of the characters, to be honest。 But then I found myself tearing up at January and Gus’s engagement, so maybe I liked them a bit more than I realized? Either way, I appreciated the ending, but probably wouldn’t recommend this book to a friend。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 January and Gus and their families and friends feel so real。 Not like in a regular romcom where everyone is polished into the best version of themselves。 Real people, with real trauma and real drama going on and people dying around them and still they find a way to be happy, or kind of happy, in their own way。 They see the bad in the world, but they also learn how to see the good and focus on that。 That’s the kind of life I want to lead。Ps。 My daughter was born in December 2019 and I have been w January and Gus and their families and friends feel so real。 Not like in a regular romcom where everyone is polished into the best version of themselves。 Real people, with real trauma and real drama going on and people dying around them and still they find a way to be happy, or kind of happy, in their own way。 They see the bad in the world, but they also learn how to see the good and focus on that。 That’s the kind of life I want to lead。Ps。 My daughter was born in December 2019 and I have been writing her letters, 1 notebook per year so currently almost halway through the 2nd one。 I loved that January’s dad did that for her, even though soms were really really short haha。 。。。more

"My Happily Ever After was a strand of strung-together happy-for-nows。"This is the first time in a while that a book's first pages had me completely and utterly INVESTED。 This book made me feel so many things, I loved the balance of cute banter and raw moments。 It was also full of AMAZING, lyrical writing (I have MULTIPLE quotes tagged throughout the entire book just cause FEELINGS)。January and Gus have my entire heart, I have never related to two characters more。 The characters felt REAL。 I "My Happily Ever After was a strand of strung-together happy-for-nows。"This is the first time in a while that a book's first pages had me completely and utterly INVESTED。 This book made me feel so many things, I loved the balance of cute banter and raw moments。 It was also full of AMAZING, lyrical writing (I have MULTIPLE quotes tagged throughout the entire book just cause FEELINGS)。January and Gus have my entire heart, I have never related to two characters more。 The characters felt REAL。 Imperfect。 Realistic struggles。 In between the giggles and shrieks, I found myself hurting for both of them and their pasts。 Gus is easily my favorite, especially once we see behind the walls he holds up and realize why he is the way he is。 The brief speech he gives near the end about how he behaved in college, and what his life was really like at that time? It broke my heart。 He's the epitome of a grumpy, misunderstood softy and I adored him。“And that was the moment I realized: when the world felt dark and scary, love could whisk you off to go dancing; laughter could take some of the pain away; beauty could punch holes in your fear。 I decided then that my life would be full of all three。”I have to say I have not stopped sobbing since I finished it。 I will need to reread multiple times just to feel something。 I'm obsessed。 。。。more

4。5 Stars。 I'm sitting here trying to decide if this book patched up my heart or tore it to shreds。 It's always alarming finding characters in books that I can see reflecting back my own brokenness。 It is nice on some occasions (relatable and all that) but always alarming。 There's just something about being a little broken that makes you think you are the only one。。。In any case, I really loved reading Gus。 I expected to read this one and enjoy it, I devoured The People We Meet On Vacation and th 4。5 Stars。 I'm sitting here trying to decide if this book patched up my heart or tore it to shreds。 It's always alarming finding characters in books that I can see reflecting back my own brokenness。 It is nice on some occasions (relatable and all that) but always alarming。 There's just something about being a little broken that makes you think you are the only one。。。In any case, I really loved reading Gus。 I expected to read this one and enjoy it, I devoured The People We Meet On Vacation and thoroughly loved those characters as well。 Beach Read was no exception to my rule of loving books about writers, these two are so different but so similar, of course we know they're perfect for each other long before they see it themselves。 This book is cute and romantic but also very dark and heavy。 The balance was good though, I didn't find myself drowning in the past traumas or cult research LOL。 These characters are VERY real and relatable, so much so in some cases for me it was hard to decide if I should look away or stare right at them。 January and Gus are sweet baby angels and I hope that they're snuggled up somewhere watching a Pirates of the Caribbean movie giving zero fucks about the world。 。。。more

I'm still confused as to why this is titled "Beach Read。" It wasn't about a beach or a beach story or about reading。 I guess because it is the type of book you would read on the beach? I read some reviews and expected more than what Emily delivered。 The smoldering looks described in every which way didn’t make for a better story。 It wasn’t horrible but it was more explicit than necessary and wasn’t as deep about actual relationships as it could have been。 And was it supposed to be a beach read or just because they read their books on the beach?

I absolutely adored this, just as much as I adored People We Meet On Vacation。 Emily Henry is definitely a new favorite author of mine and I can't wait to see what she writes in the future。 I clicked with the writing immediately and fell for the characters just as quickly。 January and Gus were both so well developed and had such depth, as individuals outside of their romance and as a pair。 The cover, while adorable, definitely didn't reflect the darker themes throughout the story but I thought t I absolutely adored this, just as much as I adored People We Meet On Vacation。 Emily Henry is definitely a new favorite author of mine and I can't wait to see what she writes in the future。 I clicked with the writing immediately and fell for the characters just as quickly。 January and Gus were both so well developed and had such depth, as individuals outside of their romance and as a pair。 The cover, while adorable, definitely didn't reflect the darker themes throughout the story but I thought the struggles January and Gus were facing added such an important and interesting element to their story。 The rivals to lovers and slow-burn aspects were also just perfectly done。 I loved all the side characters so much and the setting had incredible summer, lakehouse vibes。 This had everything I look for in adult romance and I will definitely reread it regularly。 。。。more
